Condensate Pots

Parflow Condensate Pots are precision-fabricated reservoirs installed in steam impulse lines. They hold a stable condensate column that shields transmitters and gauges from direct high-temperature steam while keeping both impulse legs at equal hydrostatic head, the prerequisite for accurate differential pressure measurement on steam service.

Overview

Parflow Condensate Pots are precision-engineered components designed to protect pressure measuring instruments and ensure accurate differential pressure measurement in steam and condensable vapor systems. Installed between the process line and pressure transmitters, gauges, or differential pressure instruments, condensate pots collect and maintain a stable condensate column, preventing hot process media from directly reaching sensitive instrumentation.

In steam applications, accurate pressure measurement depends not only on the performance of the instrument but also on maintaining equal hydrostatic pressure on both impulse lines. Without proper condensate management, uneven condensate accumulation can introduce measurement errors, expose instruments to excessive temperatures, and reduce overall system reliability. Condensate pots eliminate these issues by providing a controlled reservoir that ensures consistent condensate levels on both sides of the measurement system.

Parflow Condensate Pots are manufactured for long-term service in demanding industrial environments, combining robust construction with precision fabrication to provide dependable performance in power generation, refineries, petrochemical plants, process industries, and steam distribution systems. Ensuring Measurement Accuracy in Steam Systems Steam is one of the most widely used process utilities across industry, but its high operating temperature presents unique challenges for instrumentation.

Pressure transmitters and gauges are generally designed to measure pressure, not withstand continuous exposure to high-temperature steam. Condensate pots provide a practical solution by allowing steam within the impulse line to condense before reaching the measuring instrument. The collected condensate forms a stable liquid barrier that protects the instrument from excessive temperatures while ensuring both impulse lines contain equal liquid columns.

Maintaining this balance is essential for differential pressure applications, where even slight variations in condensate level can introduce significant measurement errors.

Parflow Condensate Pots

Working principle

Steam entering the impulse line cools and condenses before the pot, which collects and retains the condensate as a stable liquid barrier between hot steam and instrument.

Fitted identically on the high- and low-pressure legs, the pots maintain matching condensate columns so equal hydrostatic pressure acts on both sides of the DP transmitter, removing the level-imbalance error that otherwise corrupts steam flow measurement.

Parflow Condensate Pots

At a glance

Condensate pots are the one item in the range sized by capacity, not bore: pick the reservoir volume that keeps a stable column between blowdowns, then match the connection size (1/2", 3/4", 1") to the impulse line. Custom capacities are made to order, so the three standards below are starting points, not limits.

Standard capacities
Specify in pairs, identical capacity

A DP transmitter on steam needs two pots, one per impulse leg, installed vertically at the same elevation and with the same capacity. Unequal pots or unequal heights put a standing hydrostatic offset into the measurement that no zero trim removes. Order the pair together and take the bottom drain port on both.

Materials run SS304, SS316, SS316L and carbon steel, SS304 appears here and nowhere else in the Parflow range, so for lower-cost steam utility service this is the one product where it is a listed option.

FAQ

Why do steam DP measurements need condensate pots?

DP accuracy depends on equal hydrostatic head in both impulse legs. Pots hold matched condensate columns on each leg, and the liquid barrier keeps damaging steam temperature away from the transmitter.

Where are they installed?

In the impulse piping between the process connection and the instrument, one per leg for differential measurements, mounted so condensate collects to a stable, repeatable level.
